Reaction of drugs with nitrous acid as a source of carcinogenic nitrosamines.

چکیده

Twelve common drugs that are tertiary amines react with nitrite in aqueous solution at ph 3 to 4 to form dialkylnitrosamines that are known carcinogens. Aminopyrine gave dimethylnitrosamine in 30% yield or higher at all concentra tions down to 50 ppm (with 25 ppm nitrite); the other product of this reaction was the nitrite salt of 4-hydroxyantipyrine. The other drugs, when present at 0.01 Mwith 0.04 Mnitrite, formed nitrosamines in yields ranging from 0.03% from dextropropoxyphene to 2.4% from lucanthorre in 4 hr at 37°.

Nitrogen-Doped Carbon Quantum Dots as Fluorescent Probes for Sensitive and Selective Detection of Nitrite.

Nitrites are the upstream precursors of the carcinogenic nitrosamines, which are widely found in the natural environment and many food products. It is important to develop a simple and sensitive sensor for detecting nitrites. In this work, a fluorescence probe based on nitrogen-doped carbon quantum dots (N-CQDs) was developed for the sensitive and selective determination of nitrites. At pH 2, t...

Formation of carcinogens indoors by surface-mediated reactions of nicotine with nitrous acid, leading to potential thirdhand smoke hazards.

This study shows that residual nicotine from tobacco smoke sorbed to indoor surfaces reacts with ambient nitrous acid (HONO) to form carcinogenic tobacco-specific nitrosamines (TSNAs). Substantial levels of TSNAs were measured on surfaces inside a smoker's vehicle. Laboratory experiments using cellulose as a model indoor material yielded a > 10-fold increase of surface-bound TSNAs when sorbed s...

Environmental tobacco smoke: health policy and focus on Italian legislation.

Worldwide tobacco smoking kills nearly 6 million people each year, including more than 600,000 non-smokers who die from smoke exposure. Environmental tobacco smoke (ETS, also called secondhand smoke, involuntary smoke, or passive smoke) is the combination of sidestream smoke, the smoke given off by a burning tobacco product and mainstream smoke, the smoke exhaled by smokers. People may be expos...

P110: Nitrous Oxide and Neuroinflammation

Nitrous oxide was an anaesthetic gas that was used for many years. There were many anaesthetic drugs in operations  with many side effects. Nitrous oxide had some side effects too. But it was a safe gas in many times. In hospital personnel who worked in operating rooms exposure to this gas was important. The objective of this study was the introduction of nitrous oxide and neurologic side ...
